We make our world significant by the courage of our questions and by the depth of our answers.
—Carl Sagan

Phil Ashcroft is a London-based artist, who’s practice explores ideas of narrative and spectacle within landscape. The paintings seen here were done in acrylic on canvas and paper, and draw on influences from abstract expressionism, British landscape painting, Japanese woodcuts, and graphic street art. I particularly enjoy the use of angles and planes that create a strong sense of urgency and powerful tension in the compositions.
